Personalised contraception advice to support your reproductive choices
At Tarneit Doctors, we provide a wide range of contraceptive options to help you make informed, confident decisions about your reproductive health. Whether you’re planning for the future or simply want reliable protection, our team offers individualised care in a respectful and supportive setting.
How We Can Help
Choosing the right contraceptive method depends on your health, lifestyle, and future plans. Our doctors take the time to understand your goals and provide guidance on safe, effective options tailored to your needs.
What we provide
We offer the following contraceptive methods:
Oral Contraceptives
Includes combined and progestin-only pills. These regulate ovulation and are taken daily for effective pregnancy prevention.
Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)
Long-term protection with hormonal or copper IUDs. Inserted into the uterus and effective for 3 to 10 years depending on the type.
Contraceptive Implants
A small rod inserted under the skin of your arm that provides up to 3 years of pregnancy prevention. Low-maintenance and highly effective.
Contraceptive Injections
An injection given every 12 weeks that prevents ovulation. Ideal for women seeking a long-acting, temporary option.
Barrier Methods
Includes condoms, diaphragms, and cervical caps. These are non-hormonal and also help protect against sexually transmitted infections.
Emergency Contraception
The morning-after pill can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. Most effective when taken promptly.
Sterilisation Counselling and Referrals
For women considering permanent contraception, we provide information and referrals for tubal ligation.
Who can use this service
We provide contraceptive care for women of all ages. This includes first-time users, women seeking alternatives to their current method, and those who need emergency or long-term contraception. We also offer safe sex education and STI prevention for younger women under 25.
What to expect
During your consultation, your doctor will review your medical history, current health, and preferences. We will explain how each option works, discuss benefits and side effects, and help you choose the method that best fits your life.
If a procedure is required, such as an implant or IUD insertion, this will be scheduled with full instructions and follow-up support.
Ongoing care and follow-up
Our team continues to support you after your contraceptive plan begins. We offer follow-up appointments to ensure your chosen method is working effectively and to manage any side effects or concerns.
Fees and Medicare rebates
Most contraceptive consultations are covered by Medicare. Some procedures, such as IUD insertions or contraceptive implants, may involve an out-of-pocket cost. We’ll always provide a clear estimate before proceeding.
