How We Can Help

Regular screening is essential for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. Our experienced GPs and nurses provide this service in a private, respectful setting, with the option to request a female practitioner if preferred.

What is a Cervical Screening Test?

The Cervical Screening Test checks for changes in the cells of the cervix that could develop into cancer if left untreated. A small sample of cells is collected using a soft brush and sent to a lab for analysis. The test looks for the presence of HPV (human papillomavirus), which can cause cervical changes.

This screening is recommended every 5 years for women aged 25 to 74 who have ever been sexually active.

Why this test matters

Cervical screening helps detect changes in the cervix before they become serious. Identifying abnormal cells early allows for monitoring or treatment to prevent the development of cervical cancer.

What to expect during your visit

The test is quick and usually takes only a few minutes. You will be asked to lie down while your doctor or nurse uses a speculum to gently open the vaginal walls. A small brush is used to collect a sample of cells from the cervix.

Most patients experience little to no pain, although some may feel brief pressure or mild discomfort.

After the test

Your sample is sent to a pathology lab for review. Results are typically available within two to three weeks. Your doctor will contact you with your results and, if needed, discuss follow-up care or further testing.

Fees and Medicare rebates

The Cervical Screening Test is covered by Medicare for eligible patients. Some out-of-pocket costs may apply depending on your circumstances.
